OUR STORY
The Jingle Bell Run originated in 2018 as a way to raise money for families in Guatemala. Sophie and Emma Sue heard about a program building greenhouses in Guatemala on the radio and knew they had to do something. Within a month, they organized a silent auction and three races - which isn't easy to do! They raised over $2,600 for the cause and built two greenhouses.
But race day wasn't easy.
When the girls woke up early that morning, it was pouring rain. But they didn't let that get them down! Sophie and Emma Sue knew they had made a commitment and rain wasn't going to stand in the way. Over 30 of the original 60 registrants ventured out - and everyone insisted that the girls keep the money they had paid for entry funds. The silent auction had to be moved to an exceptionally clean garage, and so did the food. It was an amazing year, even if we were all a little wet.
Since that first year, the run has survived COVID, cold, and the hassle of virtual silent auctions. Over the years, we've raised over $20,000 for different charities. This year, we're proud to be benefiting Puppies Behind Bars, a wonderful organization that trains service dogs through incarcerated inmates to then be given to veterans, police forces, etc. Read more about their incredible mission here: https://puppiesbehindbars.com/
